James Holzhauer annihilated the previous record of $34,000 by Austin Rogers when he wagered $60,013 in Final Jeopardy on April 17, 2019. This made James Holzhauer the record holder for the largest successful Final Jeopardy wager.

7. Children’s Books Helped James Holzhauer Prepare for Jeopardy

On average, Holzhauer bet $9,000 per Daily Double. This number would probably be higher if it weren’t for a few Daily Double’s that James came across early on in the show, forcing him to wager the maximum on the board.

In 2003, Jeopardy lifted the five game winning cap. This means that a Jeopardy contestant has unlimited opportunities to continue winning.

Crediting a book by a former Jeopardy champion, James said he practiced this former champion’s buzzer techniques. At home, James practiced buzzing in while watching the show, but he says it’s hard because you can’t see when the light signals you to buzz in.

  1. James is the best thing that happened to tv. I still watch Jeopardy but it is not the same. He needs to be on more TV shows and publicized so people can see him.

  2. An endearing anecdote which James intimated on the show was the fact that when he was a child, he regularly watched the Jeopardy TV show with his grandmother who did not speak English well at all.
